Book of Handouts Article 11/23/2007

Here's an example of one of the few people actually worth helping in the Times Liberal Book of Handouts:

A 19 year old single mother is attending Misericordia University to pursue a medical career. Her 4 year old son has cerebral palsy. She's not asking for much except for a mobility device called a Dynamic Stander which would enable him to stand and walk.

Granted she had a kid at age 15. Another teenage pregnancy most likely resulting from stupidity. At least she owned up to the mistake was pro-life and took responsibility for her actions. Unlike many liberals she acted like an adult. Now she's attending college and trying to do something with her life. I give her credit. This is a cause I would throw a few bucks to. I don't have enough money to pay for the entire machine but am willing to go ahead and do whatever I can to help this young lady and her son out.

The only question I have is: if Dan Meuser is such a champion for disabled people and if he works so hard to help them out then why isn't he helping this family?

Does Dan Meuser even know about it? His company does not make the device this woman is asking for. Pride gives thier product to needy people all the time.

Love your blog!!! Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the great feedback Zen!

I would hope that as a congressional candidate Dan Meuser reads the paper. lol :-)

If he does read the paper he would be smart to buy the product for this poor kid and grandstand it to give himself more credibility as the "champion of the disabled".
Right now nobody's really buying into that phrase.

I never heard about Pride giving their scooters away to the needy. I do know that they will help retailers with the Medicare billing aspect to get people their scooters at little or no cost to them.

It's no secret that Pride has a PAC that feeds legislators money to pass legislation that makes it easier for the elderly and disabled to get these scooters for free. Medicare pays for all or part of the retail price. The more scooters that they can get in the end users hands that way the more Pride and its distributors make money.

Feeding politicians money to get what you need and want out of it is good business tactic. It made Pride and its owners millions and it made Pride a major employer in the valley.

It is not a good strategy when you're trying to run on the GOP ticket. Giving tens of thousands of dollars to top liberals and being known as a valuable contributor to the democratic cause will hurt his campaign if someone makes enough noise about it in the media. The voters need to know the truth but the local liberal media won't publish it.

Eddy- I think the media has done a good job (initiated by bloggers) in publishing his donations to dems. You seem to have a big issue with meuser giving to dems but you don't mention anything about the other guy (hackett) who gave to Skrep and Vonderheid and got a bit fat 1.2 million dollar contract. let's keep it fair and publicize the facts on all the candidates. Keep up the good work. By the way, Gort 42 is saying that hackett paid to have Vinete Fox speak at Wilkes and then protested him. that has got to be a joke.

I think that someone is confused, first a single mother should have coverage for a stander, second Pride does not make standers, and third Dan has made mobility products at a cost that made them available to so many people in this country. He has changed the lives of more people in this county and put that area on the map nationally in healthcare.
